| Sue is new to the area. She has 2 young children, a boy aged 2 and a baby girl aged 4 months. Her husband commutes 35 miles to work in their only car, leaving home early and returning late in the evening.
This means a long, lonely day for Sue, she and the children have great difficulty getting out. There is a village hall a mile away, but pushing a pram and with a toddler in tow, would be too dangerous, so attending the Parent and Toddler Group that runs there in order to meet new friends is out of the question.
Sue is quietly vegetating. She craves some adult company; she's tired of watching Jerry Springer and the Soaps on day-time TV. Sue is becoming depressed and losing her self-confidence but is nervous about agreeing to have a volunteer from Home-Start. "You provided us with a new member of the family!! I could not have coped without Jenny's support. Timmy adores her and we don't have enough room here to write our "War and Peace" novel on what Home-Start has meant to us!!" |
