JENNY and her husband had struggled raising their 3 sons, especially since 2 of the boys have learning difficulties. So even when they started school it was a long time before Jenny felt able to relax and start doing things that didn’t involve them.

‘I couldn’t take on paid work because I can’t be available during the school holidays - I need to be home when my own children need me,’ said Jenny. ‘But I do want to do something useful and to mix with other adults.’

Joining Home-Start has been perfect for Jenny; the Volunteers’ Preparation Course meant that Jenny trained with like-minded people. It runs one day a week for 8 - 10 weeks, 9.30 - 2.30 so that it fits into the school day
